National Milarepa Retreat
Thu, 2 May @ 10:00 am – Mon, 6 May @ 4:00 pm Australia/SE Qld/Noosa area
Khandro Rinpoche will teach her annual retreat in 2024 on the life and legacy of the great 10th century yogi, Milarepa. Transmission of the concise daily practice “Guru Yoga of Milarepa” will also be given – this is your direct mind to mind link with the heart mind of Milarepa that can lead you to uncover your own deep, stable mind. This rare weekend is a jewel of an opportunity that can change your life!
Milarepa exchanged a life of cruelty and maliciousness for one of contemplation and love. After years of regular meditation practice in remote mountain settings he realised the nature of mind, lived in joy and equanimity and expressed all that he had learnt in beautifully poetic songs of realisation. In doing so he became one of Tibet’s most beloved yogis.
Milarepa is the forefather of our Shakya Shri lineage and Khandro Rinpoche’s own father Apho Rinpoche was a manifestation of Milarepa.
In this retreat Khandro Rinpoche will connect us with the magic of Milarepa’s creative heart and bring to life his teachings and songs.
Location and Accomodation
Khandro Rinpoche has chosen a remote bushland setting for this Milarepa retreat. It resonates with the way Milarepa led his life, taught by nature and the direct experience of reality.
This bushland setting Hillier Retreat, is in Cooran, Queensland. It is located approximately 35 mins from Noosa Beach. It is an exclusive sanctuary of over 72 beautiful hectares. The land is part of the first nature corridor in Australia to begin reforestation. It is the ancestral territory of the Dyungungoo (Gubbi Gubbi) First Nations, according to Native Land Digital.
A google map link is below showing the exact address of the retreat. Note that google maps changes the name of the Hillier Retreat to “To Touch the World-Yoga Studio”. These share the same driveway.
Accommodation on this land will be in tents. There are two options – BYO tent and bedding or Glamping with tent, bedding and light provided. The event will be fully catered. An outdoor Milarepa style teaching area/cum gompa will be established on site.
Getting to and from the retreat site
By plane – Closest airport is Sunshine Coast which is situated at Maroochydore. There are numerous flights each day.
From the airport you may either get a private bus to Noosaville or an airport shuttle service (operated by Con-X-ion). Organisers recommend you pre-book the airport shuttle service as it takes 30 mins and drops you at a specific time at Tewantin Atrium (a local shopping mall) in Tewantin (in Noosa Shire). Organisers then can pick you up from this spot at a specified time. There is a coffee shop next to the bus stop so you may also enjoy any wait time there. When you know your specific flight and connecting airport shuttle times please buy the transport ticket below (seperate from the retreat ticket) for your taxi style pick up and/or drop off by retreat organisors.
By car – If arriving by car please do let us know approximate time of arrival/departure when booking your glamping/BYO tent ticket below.
Times
Retreatants may arrive onto the land anytime Thursday and depart anytime Monday – Thursday is set up day especially for BYO tent retreatants. Glamping tents should be ready by 2pm. Friday is a relaxed day. On these ‘relaxation’ days there will be informal teaching and integration time with Khandro Rinpoche. She will also hold a limited number of individual sessions.
The first formal retreat teaching is after dinner on Friday. Saturday and Sunday will be filled with empowerment, teaching and practice. This will continue in a formal fashion until after lunch on Sunday.
Sunday afternoon until Monday lunch is for relaxation and enjoyment. Again a time for informal awakenings – be it in a time of quietude or shared times with Khandro Rinpoche and/or sangha.
