Guru Rinpoche Day

Guru Rinpoche Day is considered an auspicious day in the lunar calendar and falls on the 10th day of each lunar month.

Today is the day of Guru Chime Pema Jungne (“Lotus-Born”), one of the Eight Manifestations of Guru Rinpoche.

Guru Chime Pema Jungne is a fully accomplished manifestation of Padmasambhava, a master who teaches and guides others on the Vajrayana path.

According to tradition, the King of Zahor once attempted to burn Guru Rinpoche alive. However, the blazing pyre transformed into a vast lake, and Guru Rinpoche was found seated unharmed upon a lotus within it. Through the power of his timeless wisdom and realization of his deathless nature, the king and many locals turned their hearts toward the Dharma and entered the Vajrayana path.

Guru Rinpoche later took Princess Mandarava as his consort, and together they continued their practice, living and teaching the Dharma.
