Guru Rinpoche day

Guru Rinpoche day is considered one of the auspicious days in the lunar calendar and falls on the 10th day of each lunar month.

This month marks the anniversary of Chime Pema Jungne, one of the eight manifestations of Guru Rinpoche (Padmasambhava)

In this nirmanakaya manifestation, the King of Zahor tried to burn Padmasambhava alive in a place called Rewalsar (Tso pema) which is now in Himachaal Pradesh, India. Padmasambhava had taken the Princess Mandarava as his secret consort and was practising tantra with her. Chime Pema Jungne remained alive amidst the flames and miraculously transformed it into a lake which is still present to this day. Through this miracle the people of Zahor turned towards the dharma. As he displayed his adamantine body he became known at this time as Chime Pema Jungne or the ‘Immortal lotus born’.
