The 22nd day of the ninth lunar month is known in the Tibetan Buddhist calender as Lhabab Duchen. It is one of the four most holy days of the year, each of which commemorates a major event in the life of Shakyamuni Buddha.
Lhabab Duchen is the anniversary of the Buddha’s return to earth after spending months in the god realms teaching the dharma and repaying the kindness of his dear mother, Mayadevi, by liberating her from samsara. Mayadevi had been reborn in a god realm after passing away one week after giving birth to Buddha.
