Kalimpong
Pedong, in Kalimpong region of India, is the old Bhutanese
area where Khandro-la lived with her late husband, His Holiness
the 9th Shabdrung Ngawang Jigme. Khandro-la worked tirelessly
to assist Rinpoche in the establishment of his gompa in Pedong,
Kalimpong.
Since His Holiness' passing from this
life in April, 2003, the monk body continues His Holiness
monastic duties. Khandro-la has her own commitment and devotion
to her husband's lineage, which continues unchangingly. For
example, in July 2008 Khandro-la will be commencing the construction
of another stupa dedicated to His Holiness' memory in Padum,
Zanskar. This is where His Holiness taught and manifested
many miracles.
Khandro-la also offers welfare and spiritual
support to Pedong's local community with whom she often visits.
Their love and devotion completely binds her to them. Even
though Kalimpong and Bhutan are a long distance from Manali,
where Khandro-la is now based, the local Pedong people and
the Bhutanese followers of His Holiness come to pay their
respect there.

Healing Garden and
Stupa
A magnificent stupa dedicated to her husband, His Holiness
the 9th Rinpoche is now almost complete. It houses his holy
body that is in samadhi. This has become a place for devotional
practice for the local community.
Recently Khandro-la visited the site and was
very happy to pay her respect and pray to the completed stupa
inside the new large shrine room. On this visit she happily
offered her and His Holiness' own private bedroom to fulfill
the request of the monk body and committee to become a museum
in memory of His Holiness. Khandro-la has now a smaller room
next to the shrine room for retreat and practice.
It was Rinpoche's dearest wish that the fertile
land surrounding Rinpoche's and Khandro-la's personal home,
which now with the stupa has become a place of worship, be
dedicated to the growing of healing herbs and plants indigenous
to the region. It will become a healing garden, a place of
rest, rejuvenation and practice.
