Pilgrimage to Kalimpong,
Darjeeling and Western Sikkim
March 29th- April 11th 2006
Khandro-la has invited her friends and students
to Pedong, Kalimpong. This is the dharma home she shared with
her late husband, His Holiness the 9th Shabdrung Rinpoche,
exiled leader of Bhutan. Here we enjoy the Tse Chu Festival
where monks perform the annual lama dances. Khandro-la will
also take everyone to Darjeeling to visit her uncle's monastery
and then on to visit the holy sites of Padmasambhava in Darjeeling,
Kalimpong and Sikkim.
Itinerary
March 29 Group flies from Kolkata to Bagdogra
airport then onto Kalimpong
March 30 Rest day in Kalimpong, "Tongsa
Gompa" visit.
March 31 Kalimpong Sightseeing, Deolo Hill
which has stunning views of Mt. Kanchenjunga at 28,168 ft.
and orchid nurseries.
April 1 Kalimpong to Darjeeling, drive through
tea plantations. Himalayan zoo, Mountaineering Institute,Tibetan
self help centre.
April 2 Sunrise at Tiger Hill (on a clear
day you can even see Mount Everest), Dali gonpa to visit Thuksey
Rinpoche.
April 3 Toy train (a world heritage site)
ride then later enroute to Pelling we visit a hot water spring
and Guru Rinpoche's cave.
4th April Pelling Sangachoeling monastery,
Khecheopari lake (where it is believed that offering prayers
will be fulfilled), Pemayangtse monastery.
April5 Drive to Gangtok, see the rhododendron
forests in full bloom and large cardamom plantations.
April 6 Gangtok, local sightseeing, visit
Choki Lodro's Khandro, Namgyal Institue of Tibetology, Rumtek
monastery.
April 7 Gangtok - Pedong - Kalimpong Drive
through the Sinchona plantations, visit the shrine of the
late and revered Shabdrung Rinpoche and be present at the
annual mask dance at the Sachen Dorjee gonpa.
April 8/9 Annual mask dance at Sangchen Dorjee
gonpa.
April10/11 Kalimpong then home via Kolkata
or Delhi
