Bhutan - Hidden Kingdom

A Unique Spiritual Journey with Khandro Thrinlay Chodon
October 2006

Khandro-la has a special connection with Bhutan and its people. Her late husband, the 9th Shabdrung was the incarnation of one of the most significant spiritual and temporal leaders in Bhutan's history. In addition Khandro-la is the great granddaughter of Sakya Shri, renowned Drukpa Kargyud yogi who revived the Mahamudra meditation lineage in Bhutan.

She now personally invites you to join her for pilgrimage, sightseeing and prayers, in this, her first visit to Bhutan since the passing of her beloved husband and Guru.

If you wish to come for just two weeks (10 - 23 October 2006) we will travel through Paro valley to Thimpu and Bumthang in Central and western Bhutan. For those who wish to continue for an additional week (10 - 31 October 2006) we will travel and camp in Eastern Bhutan, including a visit to the famous Tashi Gang.

Join us in this unforgettable journey.

Day 21 (Oct 30) Afternoon drive to Paro.

Day 22 (Oct 31) Depart early morning to Kolkata, India.

After many years of total isolation to protect its local culture, Bhutan opened its borders in the 1970's to a tightly controlled number of visitors. Due to its protected isolation, Bhutan is known as the hidden kingdom and now provides a unique and wonderful insight into a very ancient culture. Strong Buddhist values guide daily life - even their economy measures Gross National Happiness!

You will enjoy the spectacular Himalayan landscape, see local activities like archery and horseriding, visit Buddhist festivals with lama dancing, taste local food and drink and be entertained by traditional dancers and musicians.

Yet most important of all, on this very special pilgrimage with Khandro-la, you will be taken on a spiritual journey - meeting and travelling with Buddhist teachers and practitioners, learning the Buddhist history and directly experiencing places of power and practice that are centuries old. Travelling with Khandro-la will give you a "visa" to places in this land and in your heart rarely known to Western visitors.

Khandro Thrinlay Chodon comes from a family of great yogis and meditators of the Drukpa Kargyud lineage of Tibetan Buddhism. She has devoted her entire life to practice and integrating these teachings into daily life.

She is in a unique position to show us through this hidden land of the Dragon. Drukpa Kargyud is the dragon lineage and she is the widow of the exiled leader of Bhutan. With such close ties to Bhutan and a deep understanding and practice of Buddhism there is no better spiritual guide for your journey.

Truly a once in a lifetime opportunity.

Tour includes twin share accommodation in top hotels, all transport and food in Bhutan. Also includes donations to monasteries visited and a donation to the Khachodling Project.
